When home design and lifestyle maven Sarah Symonds of Grace in My Space decided to renovate her family’s guest bathroom, she knew she wanted to create a calming, polished space.
During the initial design process, Sarah gravitated towards elements of organic modern design – a juxtaposition of nature-inspired textures, earthy colors, nickel and brass hardware, and clean lines.
To ground the room, she selected a porcelain floor tile that captures the shimmering look of metal, combined with the solid mood of concrete. The ideal pairing of livable and luxe, Sarah’s choice of inherently durable porcelain tile will bring performance and lasting style to the guest bath.

ACUSA: Sarah, tell us about your bathroom renovation. What were you looking for in a flooring material?
SS: My vision for the space included a patterned bathroom countertop and lots of movement in the veining of the shower tile. Because of that, I knew I wanted the flooring material to be a solid color—but one that wouldn’t fall flat! That’s why I fell in love with the Reflex collection in Mercury from Atlas Concorde USA. Reflex is a highly textural porcelain tile that looks like concrete but has a shimmering metal detail. The subtle sheen provides visual interest without competing with the other bathroom surfaces.
Not to mention, porcelain tile is easy-to-clean. With this flooring material, I can create a decadent guest bath that’s also low maintenance. Yes. Please.
ACUSA: What inspired you to install the porcelain floor tile in a herringbone pattern?
SS: You know what, I played around with several layouts before installation and shared them all on social media – herringbone was the clear favorite. A seemingly small design decision, your tile pattern can help lead the eye to the main focal points in the room. In our case, the herringbone pattern creates a natural flow from the vanity room to the shower room, making the two spaces feel much more cohesive.
ACUSA: What design tips do you have for someone looking to purchase tile for their own dreamy bathroom upgrade?
SS: If you are pairing tile with tile, consider sticking to one playful pattern or color and one simple, classic style. If you have too many styles going on in a small space, it can feel mismatched and busy.
